Wedding in Downtown Holland MI

St. Francis De Sales and Midtown Center Wedding Photography in Holland MichiganMatt & Jessica got married!

We started our day by going to the Haworth Center where Jessica was getting ready. There’s been quite a few events we’ve attended there, but I never realized that it was actually a hotel. You learn something new every day, I guess! Or maybe I’m just a little slow sometimes.

After we left the hotel, we went to Centennial Park for Matt & Jess’ first look. These are always some of my favorite photos of the day, and this day was no exception. The first look is a brief moment for the bride and groom to experience a little alone time before the rest of the whirlwind day goes by.

The bridal party met us at the park for photos before we headed for the ceremony at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church on 13th Street. It wasn’t the full traditional Catholic wedding; it was beautiful, short, and sweet.

Catholic churches are known amongst photographers for their more stringent rules regarding wedding photography. I was given the low-down from Diane. She warned me of not going past the first pew, and to stay out of the center aisle. If I got too close to the pianist, I would get a book thrown at me. Thankfully, I survived without so much as an admonishment. Whew!

The wedding party took off in a limo after we created the family portraits, and we proceeded to Midtown Center on 15th Street. The room was decorated wonderfully, especially the head table. Appetizers were served during the cocktail hour, and the food was provided by Creative Dining. Good stuff!

When the wedding party arrived they were announced into the party, each couple showing off their personalities as they danced their way to the head table. Matt & Jessica came into the room to a great applause and went directly into their first dance as the energy was definitely at a high point.

We had a great time at this wedding! Matt & Jessica are off to their honeymoon in Tennessee where I’m sure they’ll be enjoying their downtime. Congrats!

Bruce & Michelle at Apple Blossom Chapel

Wedding Photography at Apple Blossom Chapel in Fennville MichiganIt was a gorgeous wedding day for Bruce and Michelle starting with a beautiful ceremony at Apple Blossom Chapel and ending with an outstanding reception at Boatwerks. After stops at Casey’s, Itty Bitty, and a quick ride on the Harley, we were off to Boatwerks restaurant overlooking Lake Macatawa for the reception. It couldn’t have been a better evening to have enjoyed being on the lake, enjoying a heavenly breeze.

Michelle added a very special touch at the ceremony with singing a beautiful love song to her groom as she walked down the aisle. It was so moving and unique. Holding back the emotions and being able to do that was awesome; I couldn’t have done it.

Bravo! Best wishes to you both!

Katie – Senior Model – Class of 2013

Senior Photography Model Our latest model Katie was photographed in our studio recently, and we had a blast! She brought her golf clubs, her long board that she made with her father, lots of clothes, and her awesome smile. She was so easy to photograph, I look forward to the next time we have her in the studio! Her hair and make up were done by Anew-Salon at the Yacht Basin.

Check out a sweet video featuring images from the session!

Steven & Emily Married at Windmill Island

Steven and Emily were married this Memorial Day weekend at wonderful Windmill Island in Holland, Michigan. The thunderstorm was a minor hindrance, and we had a great time. Steven, Emily, and their families are such kind and thoughtful people, and they sure know how to throw a great celebration party as well! Their attention to every detail and organization were very impressive. And Emily, you looked absolutely gorgeous!!!

Working with wonderful people like Steven and Emily means a great deal to us, and it makes our work so much more rewarding. We were very honored to share in their wedding celebration.

Congrats, Steven and Emily, and God’s best blessings to you both!

Chad & Jill’s wedding slideshow

On Saturday, Chad & Jill got married at Immanuel Church in a beautiful ceremony given by Pastor Allen. Most of the portraits were created before the ceremony, which was a good thing because it was raining afterward. After the ceremony we headed off to Camp Beechpoint in Allegan MI to have the reception. What a great location! It was our first time there and we were really impressed with the building and the view overlooking Dumont Lake.

It’s been a pleasure getting to know Chad & Jill over these last few months. They truly are a special couple! It was great to see how much they love each other. We wish you guys all the best. Have an awesome time in Hawaii!

Cameras at the Joe

So on Friday my wife and I attended a Red Wings game at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. We stayed at the Marriott in the Renaissance Center and took a shuttle from Tom’s Oyster Bar over to the game. As usual, I had my camera with me and my trusty travel lens which is an 18-200mm f3.5/5.6. Our seats were at the very top of the arena so I was going to need a telephoto lens to grab anything worthwhile. Unfortunately, they confiscated my camera. Seems that my lens exceeds their 80mm limit on focal length. Never mind that I could get a closer shot with a 50mm lens than my 18-200mm if I only had a better seat. Perhaps it would make more sense that the further you sit from the ice, the longer the lens you’re allowed to have. I’m glad they didn’t take my trusty ipod touch away from me too so I was at least able to grab a shot of the ice to prove I was there.

Traveling with a camera can be difficult sometimes…

New Website!

After days of work, late nights, restless sleep, and research, I’ve finally launched my new website.  This has been on my to-do list forever and it feels pretty good to finally get it online.  Please let me know if you find any broken links or see anything else amiss.

The old website hasn’t been taken down, so parts of it may still be accessed.   I know that there’s probably a lot of bookmarks out there that I didn’t want to break.

My next project is to get a business page set up on Facebook.  The list never ends.

Bigger and better from here!

Starting Over

So today I’ve begun recreating my website, and it’s no easy task.  The entire site is now 100% wordpress!  Not just the blog, but the entire site.  This gives the website/blog a nice, cohesive feel.

Being a computer programmer (nerd), my usual MO is to tear into the program code and hack away until the program bends to my will.  This time around, I’m trying to do things the correct way by creating what WordPress calls a “Child Theme.”  It’s a little slow going at the moment, but I should be up to speed very soon.

Lots and lots of work to be done!
